Sink or swim

date-night9 400We were on our date and the phone rang. It was a call from home.

These are usually benign requests for a dessert or a movie. Occasionaly they are reports from the daily town crier concerning a great injustice done. Nope not this time, this was a legit S.O.S. The downstairs laundry closet/hallway was flooding.

There was chaos on the other end of the line. Kids were on all three phones. (who really needs three phones?)

It is in times like these that you learn who you should really leave in charge.

Don't get me wrong, as a group they work well together in normal circumstances. In stressful, flood-ridden circumstances however, some tread water, some (most) go for a liesurely swim, and if I'm lucky one will build a boat.

Do we go home? Do we let them figure it out?

They all know how to mop and wring out towels, so my vote was sink or swim.

Selfish? Maybe. But I have faith in my little loin fruit.

Thankfully, a boat builder rose from the rapids and took charge reassuring us all would be well.

Our date night did take a detour though. . . to Sears for a new washer.

Little did we know this would be the first of three floods in the next three days!
