Tip: Children & Chores

chores1 500

If you have a child who always keeps their room tidy and gladly folds the laundry without being asked, then this article is not for you. A majority of families struggle with children not being diligent with their chores. This comes down to some of our most basic human tendencies. There is no definitive cure for motivating children to do their chores diligently. So if you are looking for one skip this tip. If you are looking for some encouragement and helpful ideas then read on.

Chores

Make chores fun. Jump in with the children and start singing some oldies or dancing with a broom. Make beards with the dish soap. Tell jokes while folding laundry.

Set up a tracking system and include rewards. This is probably one of the most popular tips I have seen with chores. I have seen friends using chore charts, stickers, and pockets.

Connect the chore to a specific family issue or problem that needs solved. People love to solve problems and be the hero who fixed an issue.

Assign specific chores to culprits. If a particular child is messy in the bathroom, then have that child be responsible for cleaning the bathroom.

These may be helpful but they are not a magic spell. How do you truly motivate children to do chores? I do not know. Tell us if you have the answer.
